CHIUZBAIA MONASTERY

Chiuzbaia Monastery is located 7 km from Baia Sprie, in a breathtaking setting, nestled in the mountains and on the edge of a deciduous forest. Positioned on a hill, to be closer to God, this holy place of worship keeps its gates open to welcome believers from all corners of the world.
This Orthodox monastery was built between 1995 and 1998, as a testament to the faith and dedication of the villagers of Chiuzbaia. During this time, both the stone church and the monastic cells were constructed under the guidance of parish priest Viorel Mada. The church is built in the shape of a cross, and its interior is decorated with Byzantine-style frescoes. The beautifully detailed paintings were created between 2000 and 2001 by artist Ștefan Sălăjan, together with his wife Daniela and their apprentice Andy, under the spiritual guidance of abbot Varlaam Coroian.
The Chiuzbaia Hermitage, dedicated to the Nativity of the Mother of God, is considered by many to be a blessed place. Despite many challenges, the abbot succeeded in working true wonders, establishing a unique monastic complex often described as a beautiful and blessed Garden of the Mother of God.
