Every patch of land in Baia Sprie tells a story about the people and the place to which they felt so deeply connected. One such story we try to recreate by admiring a traditional Maramureș wooden gate, crafted by the sculptor and former owner of the house on Decebal Street, Mr. Dragoș Iosif. This is an extraordinarily beautiful gate, through which scenes from the underground world are depicted in a naïve artistic style, with the miner as the central character.
In this way, we are reminded that Baia Sprie has forever tied its history to mining and the craftsmanship of metalworking. The area’s rich subsoil was, for many generations, a source of income and even inspiration, as this gate, along with other symbols, clearly demonstrates.
